As a widow myself who balances sorrow with joy, this act is an ode to Venus Libitina, an ancient Italian goddess of voluptuous delight and of gardens, vineyards, and vintages, connected with Venus, and therefore called Venus Libitina. She is regarded as the earth goddess of death, the departed and the underworld, luxuriant nature and the enjoyments of life.
